Panjab University (PU) is a public university located in Chandigarh, India. PU is 1st among Universities of India and 38th in Asia as per Times Higher Education Asian University rankings 2015. University has 78 teaching and research departments.

PU has a unique setup of one central and multiple department libraries. Some characteristics are as follows:

• Books are purchased in the Central Library and then Transferred to Department Libraries
• Common library membership in both Central and Department Libraries.
• Full control of the Central library and restricted access to Department libraries and so on.

Composite collection of all Libraries is around 10 lakh books and journals. In this collection, around 80,000 are in Gurumukhi scripts and around 1 lakh books are in Devanagari (Hindi) scripts.
